Prepare
- An M-VAVE FM-1 running official fm1_open firmware (identity FM-1_8…, update family 7)
- Chrome or Edge on a computer, with MIDI and SysEx allowed
- A USB data cable
- Projects, samples and voices backed up with M-VAVE's official workbench
Close other MIDI software, keep the FM-1 powered throughout, and keep the recovery notes open in another tab.
-
Connect to the FM-1
Connect it by USB and switch it on. Your browser will ask to allow MIDI: allow it. This only asks the FM-1 what it is running. Nothing is written.
No device connected.

Confirm
EXPERIMENTAL FIRMWARE
CLATTER Pocket has passed emulator testing but has not yet been verified on physical hardware.
Installing it replaces the FM-1’s stock instrument firmware.
There is a risk of installation failure, loss of settings or requiring firmware recovery.
-
Install
Do not unplug, close this page or let the computer sleep until it says it has finished. It finishes only when the FM-1 has restarted and reports this exact build.
Keep this page open. Reconnect the same FM-1, then press Connect and Install again: the updater resumes from its loader. If that does not work, follow the recovery notes below.
Now run the first hardware test. Follow FIRST-HARDWARE-TEST.md from First boot, and stop if any of its stop conditions happen.
Recovery
None of these routes has been tried with CLATTER Pocket on a device.
- Recovery procedure: restoring official firmware, and when to stop.
- Stop conditions: read these first.
- SAFE MODE: hold HOME 1.5 s after power-on. The engine stays off and the updater keeps running.
- M-VAVE's official workbench: the restore route. Keep it open in another tab.
- The FM-1 Firmware Hub's rescue guide: the community's tools, for other firmwares. Its OCT− USB rescue is not something CLATTER Pocket provides or has been tested with.
Why it is off
- This page needs JavaScript to read the release configuration. Installing stays off without it.
